After the disappointing team event on Monday, Jay exceeded all expectations today and advanced to the 1/8 eliminations round.

On Monday, Team Canada was shooting against Italy, the eventual silver medalists, in the men's team 1/8 eliminations. After leading the first two ends, Canada was eventually defeated by two points with a final score of 217-219.

However, Jay bounced back today to deliver some excellent performances in the individual event. In the 1/32 round, Jay was pitted against Xue Hai Feng of the hosts. Jay was performing consistently throughout the match while Xue Hai Feng shot a weak 23 in the first end. Jay eliminated Xue Hai Feng by a final score of 111-106.

Immediately after he advanced from the 1/32 round, Jay was shooting in the 1/16 eliminations. He was facing Brady Ellison from the United States, who is ranked 13th in the FITA world ranking and 15th in the ranking round. Ellison eliminated another Canadian archer John David Burnes in the 1/32 round en route to the 1/16. Another remarkable performance against Ellison, winning 113-107, ensured Jay a place in the 1/8 eliminations.

Jay's great performances created two upsets within 20 minutes at the Olympic Green Archery Field. In the 1/8 eliminations, he will be facing Russian archer Bair Badenov, who won against Laurence Godfrey from British and Mangal Singh Champia from India in the last two rounds. Badenov is no. 47 in the FITA world ranking and ranked 31st in the ranking round. The match will take place at 11:09 Aug 15 (local time).

Should Jay advances to the quarterfinals, he will be facing the winner between Cheng Chu Sian of Malaysia and Lee Chang-Hwan of Korea at 16:13. The gold medal match will be held at 17:37 on the same day. Good luck Jay!!
